2020 was a supremely transformative year. We were challenged in many different ways. Our boundaries were pushed well beyond our comfort zone. We were told to slow down, take account of our lives. Take account of where we are at in our life, physically, materially, spiritually. Our relationships were challenged, and so was our ability to sit still, our ability to navigate through the chaos, our ability to discern and digest a mountain of information coming through the media, social media. All this happened as Rahu (the north node of the moon) and Ketu (south node of the moon) had all the planets in their grip for most part of 2020. What does that mean? When all the planets move to one side of Rahu Ketu axis, a special conjunction (yoga) is formed called Kaal Serpa Yoga. This yoga presents as a challenging time as the planets cannot express their energies clearly. Rahu and Ketu become the dominant energies. Rahu is the head of the dragon and Ketu, the tail. Rahu creates chaos and in the sign of Gemini, it is exalted. Rahu is a Vata (air) sign and so is Gemini. When Rahu entered Gemini at the end of Dec 2019, that’s when Coronavirus started. Rahu is not just air; it’s more like smoke. It creates confusion; it blocks your ability to see clearly. Ketu is fire. Ketu can create a lot of conflicts and Mars-like fiery energy. This is what we experienced in 2020.
However, 2021 is shaping out to be quite volatile as well. This Kaal Serpa is forming again. Planets are beginning to gather in the sign of Capricorn. On Feb 10th, 6 planets were in the sign of Capricorn and a full Kaal Serpa yoga was formed. So what does that mean? Capricorn is a sign that is ruled by Saturn. It asks us to create discipline, build structures, routines in life. In Vedic astrology, Capricorn is represented by a crocodile. Crocodiles have a one-pointed focus on their prey; they have staying power being one of the oldest species on the planet. That is what is being asked of us as we are further challenged by lockdowns. Our staying power is being tested. With the Kaal Serpa forming, again we are feeling ourselves getting stifled, constricted, unable to move, unable to travel, unable to do things we like to do. What is the point of all this?
The highest call of Rahu in our lives is to break the boundaries. Rahu is a dragon’s head without a stomach. This represents a voracious appetite for life. Rahu is not satisfied by a mundane existence; it would rather want us to experience everything that this manifest reality has to offer. It’s asking us to look at how we have been living. Are we happy with our 9 to 5 lives? Are we happy with filling that void within our soul with the stuff we keep buying in the malls every weekend with the money we make during the week? Is this what human life is for? Consume, consume, consume!
Ketu’s highest call is spirituality. To look at the highest purpose of your life, to raise your consciousness, to see yourself as a part of existence with a purpose. A purpose, that when you start to work towards it, brings a sense of peace and joy. This purpose, this dharma, is different for each individual. It’s clearly highlighted in your birth chart. If a Vedic astrologer who has a high consciousness state looks at your chart, they can give you clear pointers on what your dharma in this life is. They can give you practices to help you align yourself with the highest energy of your chart. You can start to move in the direction of your dharma. As you take one step in the right direction, the whole cosmos rejoices, celebrates and aligns itself around you to support you. This is a life of flow. We have all experienced it. When we make the right decision in our life, things happen easily, more and more synchronicities start to happen. This is the purpose of our life. Life is not meant to be hard. It is meant to be in harmony with nature.
So, this is that highest call of 2021. Take a good look at your life. What is the dominant content in your head? What are your dominant desires? Whatever you pay most attention to, grows. What would you like to grow in your life? More peace, more abundance, more harmony? Then this is the time to make it happen. Yes, it requires courage to step outside your comfort zone. Yes, it takes trust to make that leap. But know that if there was ever a good time to take that leap, it is now!
